Religious Vocations

A Message from the Editor

In this issue of Profiles in Catholicism, we explore Religious Vocations with a series of interviews, articles, and videos. We also address euthanasia and assisted suicide in The Netherlands where the government it has no respect for human life.

Please send a letter to Mark Zuckerberg, at Facebook and ask him to remove all hate features against Muslims. This has been a pattern by Facebook and by Mark Zuckerberg’s buddy Donald Trump. We were saddened to learn of the upcoming retirement of Sister Simone Campbell and applaud her activism in asking people in the United States to take action and oppose the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett. and stating “We can not support a judge who blatantly ignores the moral call to advance women's rights, voting rights, immigrants' rights, and health care”.

If any United States Black person is still thinking of voting for the racist Tramp and his racist family, please read In Election Hail Mary, Jared Kushner Tells Black People They’re Lazy and Unambitious;

Trump calls Dr, Anthony Facci "a disaster" and said, despite signs that the nation was headed toward another coronavirus peak, that people were “tired” of hearing about the virus from “these idiots” in the government. His criticism of Dr. Anthony Fauci has resulted in death threats against him and his family. Some of this has to do with Fox News.

The Trump Administration is now promoting herd immunity which would result in more than a million unnecessary deaths. Dr. Fauci calls it “total nonsense”. William Haseltine calls it “mass murder”.

Please read Dying in a Leadership Vacuum by The Editors N Engl J Med October 8, 2020, and Trump aide: ‘We’re not going to control the pandemic’ by Jonathan Lemire, Alexandra Jaffe, and Aamer Madhano Associated Press

Then read Amid pandemic, U.S. has seen 300,000 ‘excess deaths,’ with highest rates among people of color. This is why I believe that Trump is morally responsible for tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths.

Vocation Prayer

O Father, you desire all of us to be happy.

Stir up the grace of a religious vocation in the hearts

of many men and women.

Grant to them the willingness and generosity

to give of themselves, their lives, their time and their

talents to the service of Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord and

Savior, and to His Holy Church.

May more men and women go forth as priests, deacons,

brothers and sisters to bring the truths of our Catholic faith

to all others so that soon they, too, may know You better

and love You more...

and serving You, be truly happy. Amen.

A Quote to Remember

“The vocation is truly a treasure that God places in the hearts of some men, chosen by Him and called to follow Him in this special state of life. This treasure, that must be discovered and brought to light, is not made to ‘enrich’ someone alone. He who is called to the ministry is not the ‘master’ of his vocation, but rather the administrator of a gift that God has entrusted to him for the good of all the people, or rather for all humanity, even those who have drifted away from religious practice or do not profess faith in Christ.” by Pope Francis

He suffered kidnapping, fear, hunger, death threats in hand of his abductors Lord, in the siege of Marawi. He has now passed to you, may his spirit continue to inspire all those kidnap victims around the world. They may know like Father Chito that they can survive by their faith and trust in you Lord.

By believing in You and in life and having the desire to serve and help the poor and the oppressed he had reason to live.

Father “Chito”, was loved by so many for his courage and wisdom, his will to survive and continue to serve. His life has made your kingdom much closer Lord and may his spirit of love and dedication live on among us. Amen.

Praying for Father Stan Swamy

A prayer to overturn the Dutch Euthanasia Law for Under 12s:

“You have the words of eternal life” (Jn 6: 68)

Lord, there is a growing darkness over the land,

Just as it was when you died (Lk 23: 44),

When people were confused about your life

And what it meant “to rise again” (cf. Mk 8: 33).

Lord, this darkness is deepening and is being described

As enlightening, claiming to lighten the burdens of the ill,

Smuggling in a suffocating silence which, instead of listening,

Silences the speaker and stops, a life, with deliberate death.

Lord, this darkness is descending lower, claiming younger

And younger lives, older and older lives, taking them out

Of each other’s company and claiming, all the while,

To be helping those who cannot continue the search for meaning.

Lord, you know how difficult it was for your disciples

To understand your suffering (cf. Mk 8: 33); and you know, through And through, the difficulty we all have understanding the suffering

We experience – renew our hope in your help.

Dearest Mother of the Lord, how patiently you were

Present to the sufferings of your Son, be with us,

We pray, as again and again, we turn to Life (cf. Jn 14: 6) and hope,

To lead us in finding a way to help those in need (cf. Jn 2: 3).

St. Joseph, spouse of Mary and foster-father of the Lord,

Help us grasp, like you, the changes in the life of the child

Which help us to find, with him or her, the meaning of their suffering so that they can enter life as fully as possible.

Dear Lord, Jesus Christ, you lived the burden of your cross

Throughout your life, so we beg you to share your experience

With all who need to be embraced by understanding and love

And open the hearts of all to reject the failure of true empathy.

Dear Holy Family, renew the society in which we live so that,

Renewed in love for each other, love will help us to understand

That we need to persevere, in mutual understanding, so that the

Good we experience may be more and more beneficial to all.

Prayer of hope

When the challenge of life brings worry and I feel that I am stressed

I turn to you Lord and find the tranquil peace of rest.

In the times of hurt and pain, I cry away the sorrow and reach beyond the misery to the hope of a new tomorrow.

There, in the shadow of your friendship, I find the strength of love and I see the blessed light, and think of how to help the other as you banish the darkness of the night. I travel on in hope with you walking by my side. I know I have the strength to match your every stride and then when day is done, I know the battle is truly won. Amen

A Prayer Amid an Epidemic

Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages "curing every disease and illness." At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love.

Heal those who are sick with virus. May they regain their strength and health through quality medical care.

Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbors from helping one another.

Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders.

Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.

Be with those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace.

Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they know your peace.

Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace.

Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks. May they know your peace, as they work together to achieve it on earth.

Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace.

Jesus Christ, heal us.

A Prayer for the Children Murdered in Nigeria and the Children killed in the Afghan bombing attack

Lord embrace these precious lives of these beautiful children as they bask in your infinite lover for eternity.
