Obituary of Father Thomas M. Heskin, O.S.M.


Fr. Thomas M. Heskin, O.S.M., a solemn professed friar and priest of the Order of Friar Servants of Mary (Servites) - United States of America Province, died Sunday, June 9, 2013. He was 83 years of age and a priest for 58 years. He was the son of the late John and Mary (nee Farragher) Heskin; dear brother of Paddy (the late Sarah), Bridie (the late Michael) Harney, the late Mary (James) Higgins, the late Margaret, the late Judy (John) Higgins, the late Kathleen, the late Nellie (Ernest) Cock, the late Winnie (Patrick) Quinn, the late Anne (Thomas) Rowe, the late Philomena (Maurice) English, the late Frank (Bernie), the late Michael, the late John (Agnes) and the late James; loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.


Fr. Heskin entered the Order at Benburb Priory and professed solemn vows on October 19, 1952. He was ordained priest on May 15, 1955. Fr. Heskin spent many years in formation as Master of Brothers, Novices, Postulants (all between 1961-1967); Provincial Examiner from 1961-1967. From 1964-1967, he was National Mission Promoter for Ireland. Fr. Thomas also served many years in chaplaincies: to the Servite Sisters in Ladysmith (1967-1970); at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield, WI (1977-1985); and Loyola Medical Center, Maywood, IL, from 1986-2006). Fr. Thomas also served as associate pastor at St. Domitilla Parish, Hillside, IL, from 1985-1986. His funeral was Wednesday, June 12 at St. Domitilla Church, Hillside. Interment was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
