Foundation Padre Jaime

by Rosemary León Buitrago

The words of Psalm 125: "The Lord has done great things for us and we are joyful", clearly express what these nine (9) years of existence of the Fundación Padre Jaime have meant.

How can we not say that the Lord has been great, if he has allowed us to accompany 43 Salesians of St. John Bosco from Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Indonesia, the Republic of Congo, Colombia and Vietnam, starting with their religious vows, then throughout their diaconate, until the ordination of 30 of them?

The Foundation Padre Jaime is a non-profit organization, independent of the Salesian Society, and with headquarters in Bogotá, D.C., Colombia. Its main purpose is to provide Salesians of St. John Bosco  who have taken perpetual vows economic support in their university Theology studies. In addition, and what is more important, the Foundation provides spiritual accompaniment in their vocation through the Foundation’s Mass and Rosary groups.

We understand that young priests need a voice of encouragement from the laity, who encourage them during the times of trial and solitude they face when they give their lives in places as diverse as cities or jungles with indigenous communities. Therefore, we are always there for them through e-mails, phone calls and letters written by members of the “Letter for a Priest” Group of the Fundación Padre Jaime.

The second objective of the Foundation is to make the life and work of Reverend Jaime Rodríguez Forero, sdb, known. He combined the facets of educator expert in Salesianity, prolific writer, historian, sociologist and bioethicist as an expression of his priesthood. Father Jaime Rodriguez is a role model that young Salesians we have supported should follow.  We really believe world need priest as him.

In his memory and in the last two years we have awarded the Father Jaime Rodríguez F. sdb prize to distinguished Salesians from Spain and Peru. Additionally, we have published the book titled “Father Jaime Rodríguez F. SDB The Reason for his Life”. Just as it appears in the dedication, this book is for “all of those who desire to know how God is present in every day life through exceptional people like Father Jaime”.

We invite you to rejoice with us for the goodness and mercy that the Lord has had with the Fundación Padre Jaime, with the motto from St John Bosco: “Here we make holiness consist in always being happy.”
