A Message from the Editor
Much of what I know about abortion was learned when I worked at the Thomas Moore Society where I met Denise Mackura who became one of my closest friends. I pray that the U. S. Supreme Court may soon overturn Roe v Wade which will save countless lives.
I am asking our readers to pray that other countries may also overturn their permissive abortion laws such as Ireland.
The growing success of Profiles in Catholicism which is now in 60 countries including Russia and China is a testament to our hardworking staff. However, the increasing costs of publishing and distribution have made it necessary to change Profiles in Catholicism to a monthly publication. We need your donations to help pay our staff. United States donations are tax-deductible. We would deeply appreciate a $10.00 donation.
A Quote to Remember
“I wish to restate as firmly as I can that abortion is a grave sin, since it puts an end to an innocent life. In the same way, however, I can and must [state] that there is no sin that God’s mercy cannot reach and wipe away when it finds a repentant heart seeking to be reconciled with the Father.”
by Pope Francis
Special Prayer
A Prayer for Unborn Children and Their Mothers
Dear God:
Today there are many people who deny the existence and value of your children in the wombs of their mothers. As has happened to so many groups of humans before, this denial makes it possible to provide legal and cultural sanctions to the brutal ending of these innocent lives and denies us all the opportunity to witness their beauty. We pray today for the wisdom to discover how to open the hearts and minds of every American to unborn children at risk of being aborted. We also pray for the parents of all unborn children, that they may have the grace and strength to care for the glorious gift of life you have given them.
by Denise Mackura Profiles in Catholicism
A Prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe
Virgin of Guadalupe, Patroness of unborn children,
we implore your intercession for every child at risk of abortion.
Help expectant parents to welcome from God
the priceless gift of their child’s life.
Console parents who have lost that gift through abortion,
and lead them to forgiveness and healing
through the Divine Mercy of your Son.
Teach us to cherish
and to care for family and friends until God calls them home.
Help us never to see others as burdens.
Guide our public officials
to defend each and every human life through just laws.
Inspire us all to bring our faith into public life,
to speak for those who have no voice.
We ask this in the name of your Son,
Jesus Christ, who is Love and Mercy itself.
Amen
by Wayne Smith
Prayer of remembrance of Father Rudy Romano and Father Conrado de la Cruz
Lord so many years have passed we recall their lives of sacrifice they were the true prophets of the poor.
They stood as Jesus did to bring justice as the cure.
To end violence and oppression, they sought to end the suffering and the pain, They were missionaries and gave their lives without seeking to win or gain.
Filipinos with hearts of love, they were killed and disappeared, their bodies never found,
Lord we continue to remember them as they lie
in unmarked graves in the lost and unknown ground.
May their sacrifice inspire, and their selfless lives endure,
In the spirits of all who live for justice and serve the wretched and the poor. Amen
by Father Shay Cullen Profiles in Catholicism
A Prayer for those who died in the European floods
Dear Lord,
We ask you to bless those killed in the drowning in Europe. Through our Baptism we are brought into your kingdom. We become children of God and heirs of the kingdom. We pray heartedly for those who were killed in the drowning in Europe especially Germany. Welcome them into the kingdom. Take care of their families and friends. We ask you this through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen.
by Eileen Quinn Knight, Ph.D. Profiles i Catholicism
Prayer for the children killed in Muskogee
Lord, eternal goodness and love, we need your presence in the world to end violence and death.
Lord we see the anger and the rage unleashed without compassion and care,
five young children died and one adult in the hail of gunfire in Muskogee, Oklahoma.
May their spirits live on, in your presence, may their lives count as they lived in innocence and truth.
Bring justice for them Lord and understanding for the deranged gunman.
Lord let there be healing and recovery for those that survived and may there be a new age where weapons and guns are strictly and legally controlled and lives are saved.
Lord let the people of America mourn these tragic deaths of children and change the violent culture to that of peace without weapons of violence and death.
Lord may there be greater healing and mental health services and therapy for those racked by anger and pain buried deep within released through violent rage. May there be more therapy for peaceful emotional release and for those that carry pain.
Lord may life triumph and with you, love, respect, discipline and peace prevail. Amen
